iPad, Purse and Sunglasses, Wet Wipes, Spare Nappy and Pens: What Lives Inside Your Handbag?

The Daily Mail has published research showing that the modern woman’s handbag is home to over £1000 of “essentials” including, but not limited to: £130 sunglasses, £500 iPads, £20 mascara and £50 scarves, but having rifled through our handbags in the office this morning, we’re not convinced. If nothing else, the majority of us aren’t toting around a £250 handbag in the first place –they’re saved for special occasions. Anyway, without further ado, here’s our Kiddies Kingdom list of everyday handbag essentials for the more “everyday” kind of woman:

•    Handbag itself – typically under £50, high street brand with some designer bags thrown in for good measure, in a selection of colours to brighten up the Autumn chill
•    Pack of tissues
•    Keys
•    Phone
•    Hairbrush
•    Numerous pens, some with lids, some without
•    Lip balm/gloss/lipstick – typically under £10
•    Eye make-up: mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow – mainly under £10 each
•    Other misc make up including an empty tube of BB cream, body spray and concealer
•    Baby/Toddler essentials: spare nappy, wet wipes, muslin, long forgotten dummy (I wondered where that was), half eaten pack of biscuits, pair of socks
•    Purse – often a bit battered and bruised but full of too much loose change, receipts and coupons to think about changing
•    Umbrella with missing cover
•    Spare pair of tights and some clear nail varnish
•    Hayfever tablets left over from Summer and half a pack of painkillers
•    Woolly gloves, still a bit damp from walking in the rain to work this morning
•    Folding shopping bag
•    Pack of mints, bought a few weeks ago, half missing and the other half stuck to the handbag lining
•    2 pairs of reading glasses and sunglasses in the hope we get some more good weather this year
•    Hair essentials including bobbles, pins and clips
